Comics Reviews 3-27-2013

Sorry guys, I just got my copy of Bioshock Infinite Ultimate Songbird Edition yesterday, and I'm really into it right now.  Juggling with both works and BioShock, I forgot to read the comics this week, and I wasn't prepare for it.  However, it doesn't mean I'm not going to do a comic review this week.  I'm just going to do a short one.

Anyway, here's the cover of the week:

It's funny to see the six of them got stranded on a broken little raft.  I wonder what's going on here?  Anyway, if Franky, Sanji and Robin don't come to rescue them soon, things will be bad for our heroes.  There are 3 people here who couldn't swim at all.

Comics Reviews 3-20-2013

Sorry for the absent yesterday guys.  It has been a hectic week, and it's difficult for me to update regularly.  But now I'm back, and I have this week's comic reviews ready.

This week I will review comics from DC, Marvel and One Piece.  First, Cover of the week:

An awesome cover with a sexy Black Window that steals away the attention.  Anyway, let's start away with the reviews.

Comics Reviews 2-27-2013

Hello blog readers, due to time management, I decided to only review the comics that I really want to review.  Also, it's a way to guarantee quality reviews.  Here goes:

Batman Incorporated issue 8

So DC gone and one it- the first major death in New 52.  There was a  rumor for the longest time that Damian Wayne was going to die in The Death of The Family event, and when no one died people thought  Damian was safe.  Little do they know that he's going die a few weeks later in Batman Incorporated instead.  To be honest, I already know that Damian can't die in Death of The Family event, because Grant Morrison always says that he has things planned for Damian.  So it would be really screw-up if someone other writer killed him off instead.

This is actually not a very strong issue despite the eventful death.  The fight between our heroes and the enemies is a rushed one, and it feels like that Morrison just wants to force the story to the final confrontation between Robin and his evil clone.  The confrontation is of course, a sad and tearful one with Robin pleading his mother to stop the evil clone.  Not to overlook that the only reason Robin would die is because he tries to save the girl from being killed in the first place.  This character really comes a long from a troubled assassin boy to a kind-heart superhero.  Especially in the recent issues of both Batman Incorporated and Batman and Robin, we get to see how much he is trying, and how much he just wants his father's approval and love- something he can't get from his mother.

Let's not forget that Nightwings also shares a moment with Damian as well.  Remembering the days when Damian was the Robin to Nightwing's Batman.  It really was a time when Damian first started to grow in many readers' hearts.

From 2006-2013, we will always remember you, Damian Wayne.  And hope you make a return one day.

One Piece Chapter 700

The big 700!  With past experiences, One Piece usually has big revelation in their "hundreds" titles.  "His Own Pace" is no different than others.  While the revelation might not be as strong as past ones, this is still a superb chapter.

We learn a lot of things this chapter.  First of all, there's a freelance reporter named Absa in the series.  And from the little Easter egg in the panel, we can guess that Absa is actually Absalom.  it seems like he's finally using his fruit power to good use.

Second, the confirmation that Buggy the Clown is a Shichibukai.  Well, it's not too much a revelation to most people, because all the good One Piece fans already guessed Buggy is a Shichibukai now.  It would be a surprise if Buggy is not.  Anyway, Doflamingo's epithet is also revealed to be Ten Yasha- Sky Demon.  It's probably referred to the fact that Doflamingo can "walk" in the air.  One Shichibukai is still remain unknown, and there're rumors that Wapol will be the final Shichibukai.  While I'm not a fan at all to this theory, it would be kinda fun to see that happen.  But still, I'm not a fan at all.

Last, it's revealed that Doflamingo is in possession of Ace's Devil Fruit- The Flame-Flame Fruit.  We already know that once a Devil Fruit User died, the closet fruit next to him/her will become the Devil Fruit with the same power.  However, there's still the possibility that the Devil Fruit is synthetic.  A point I have to make clear is that I don't believe Luffy will be affected by this at all.  He will feel something at first of course, but he will not break the alliance with Law.  He's man like that.

Now Straw Hat Crew and friends arrived the next island, I can't wait to see what's in store for them next.  Can't wait for next week.

Uncanny Avengers issue 4

I'm actually very disappointed with this series.  This is the flagship title for the entire Marvel Now moments, and it can't keep itself being interesting.  While New 52's flagship Justice League is still strong as ever.  I really don't see how Marvel gets to make fun of DC at all sore loser.  

The fight between our heroes and Red Skull feels like a lazy one with too many repeated actions.  Red Skull is killing Rogue, so Havok comes out to stop him.  Now Havok is being controlled by Red Skull just to have Captain America to come out and stop him again?  The final speech Havok gives to the brain-washed civilians are lazy as well.  Shouldn't a speech like this make people feel like "yeah, thing are going to be alright."  I don't feel that at all.  All I feel is "hey, this guy is running away from his problems."

The art is getting really bad, too.  I do not like the way he draws his characters, and the little homage to Days of Future Past is just a desperate cry for me.  We all know that the next X-Men movie is based on Days, so to me this is an unnecessary way this title tries to milk the money out of it.  Next month is a brand-new story, so I will give that a try.  But if things don't pick up by then, I will stop reading this series.

While I'm going to review other titles, there are some interesting things in them.  The Flash issue 17 finally shows a glimpse of Reverse Flash in the final panel.  Also, Uncanny X-Men issue 2 is setting up a big fight between the Avengers and Cyclops' X-Men.  It seems like the Avengers is getting busy with X-Men, cause they're set to appear in next week's All New X-Men as well.              

Comics Reviews 2-20-2013

I review comic books every week!  This week I review comics from DC, Marvel and Shonen Jump's One Piece .  In alphabetical order.

Action Comics issue 17

After two extra weeks of waiting, Action Comics issue 17 is finally comes out and it does not disappoint.  This issue continues to tie up loose ends in Grant Morrison's run on the series, and some confusing plots are begin to have answers.  However, while question are answered, the issue lack story progress.  It's a good touch to have the citizens of Metropolis to help out Superman, but overall the story is not enough to make this a strong issue.  It's might also be because the story was split into two issues, so all the juicy stories are in the next issue.

The strongest part of this issue is the back-up.  The back-up is a cute story between Superman and his father.  While the narration method of the story is questionable, it is still a very cute, very heartwarming story.  It's funny how Action Comics usually has stronger back-ups than the main story.  Can't wait for the epic (I hope) conclusion next week

Birds of Prey issue 17

Whoa, so other than the obvious, no one else notice that Black Canary is the one losing control?  It is really annoying that Strix is the only one found out about this, but she cannot talk!  To make things worst, no one notices when she writes thing down on the ground.  Come on, it's like one of those children in horror movies that no one believes.  Strix attempt to kill Black Canary is just stupid.  And Black Canary's lame excuse?  Yeah, I'm sure Strix just dropped the killer robot thingy, girl.  While I always like Superhero team stories, I can really say this is one of the dumbest, and most untrustworthy team ever.  The final panel where Black Canary has a stupid smile on her face makes me want to puke.  What's she smiling about after she looses control like that?

4/10- if this series don't pick up soon, I'm going to stop buying it.  

Green Lantern issue 17

So after the epic conclusion of Rise of the Third Army, Wrath of the First Lantern begins.  And it already deliver some promising story line.  First Lantern turns out to be a strong character with strong desire- he want the Guardians to return to their emotional-selves.  To me, it seems like DC is trying to clean up some mistakes Johns done on the Green Lantern series-  like taking away Ganthet's emotion.  Meanwhile, The First Lantern is running low on energy and he is going to steal energy from one of the active Green Lanterns.  While it seems like the First Lantern will visit Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner in their own titles, but I doubt anything will really happen.  It's been a thing in DC these days that nothing really major happens anyway so while it's intriguing to pick up those titles, but I'm going to save my money for now.  Now that Simon Baz is stuck in the Black Ring as well, can't wait to see what's going to happen next.

Injustice: Gods Among us issue 6

Ha ha, so it turns out that there's going to be more Injustice comics.  I really don't know why last issue has an END at the last panel then.  But it doesn't matter because I really like this series, and I'm glad there's more going.  This issue has Superman making public declare that he is not going to allow bad things to happen anymore... This issue might be as eventful as the past ones, but it's an important stepping stone to where Superman is going to become.  It gives me chills to see Superman this way.

Justice League issue 17

This issue concludes the cross-over event.  While this might not be the strongest cross-over event, it is a great story with many things comes out of it.  1). Aquaman is the king of Atlantis again.  2). Orm is arrested and dubbed Ocean Master.  3). Justice League is officially opening their ranks for new member.  4). A villain is also forming a team as well.  This is why Justice League is the flagship title of New 52- every time an event happens, something awesome always comes up of it.  This issue might not have the strongest story, but it's the final pages that make this once again another strong issue.

Justice League of  America issue 1

A long awaited, highly anticipated title.  And I'm glad to see that the wait does not go to waste.  The core concept of the series is simple- the U.S. Government wants a team of heroes that will answer to them, so they decide to group some B list heroes together whom they can easily control.  The issue might be a little slow though, since this is the first issue Johns wants to establish who's joining the team, and why they're joining the team.  While the issue might not have enough space to include why most of the heroes are joining the team, it does focus on some of the most trouble characters such as Vibe, Catwoman and Martian Manhunter.  

This is also the first introduction of Star Girl to the New 52 world.  While it not be enough of her yet for me to determine, but she seems like an interesting character.  The issue also shines some light on the Secret Society, and it seems like a war is just around the corner.  Also, the revelation at the end of the issue is a shocking one.  Does this mean that Trevor and Green Arrow are secretly working together?  We shall find out.

Justice League of America's Vibe issue 1

So along with the Justice League of America, Vibe also released this week.  While Vibe was a joke character before New 52, this Vibe is actually interesting and fun to read.  In fact, I think I enjoy this title more than Justice League of America.  The origin might be a typical one, but it certainly allows me to "feel" for the character.  His vibration power is no longer limited to shock people (maybe pleasure himself?), he can also vibrate through different dimensions!  The possibility of this is just vast.  Maybe a chance for the old DC universe to return?  Nah, I'm just kidding, but I do hope DC set the new world a lot better though.  Anyway, the final panel revels that Darkseid has a daughter, and he will be back for her soon.

One Piece Chapter 699

After a week of absent, One Piece is finally back!  "Morning paper" is a chapter that takes the story one giant step forward, and shakes the world of One Piece.  Doflamingo is no longer a Shichibukai, which they can never complete that magical number 7, and Law's alliance with Luffy is heard by the government.  This is a big deal because if Law is not careful, his alliance with Luffy might cause him his Shichibukai title as well.  I think most people are angry with the fact that Momonosuke gets to bath with Robin, right?  I actually don't really care cause only thing that matter to me with One Piece these days are the plots.  The chapter ends with Law giving Doflamingo another phone call, can't wait to see what's in store next.

Supergirl issue 17

Whoa, I though I was reading a Wonder Woman title, and I notice the story isn't as good, so it has to be a Supergirl title.  Anyway, this issue has Wonder Woman fighting Supergirl.  While both my be equally match in strength, it was Wonder Woman's victory as she's more experience.  I'm glad that Supergirl is coming to her sense, because this entire thing with H'el is getting annoying.  Just when I was thinking about that, H'el has to come out of no where and ruins things for everyone.  I really like the Supergirl title, and I can't wait the cross-over event to be over so I can go back to enjoy this title the way it is.

The Superior Spider-Man issue 4

This is a fun issue with Doc Ock going crazy that Peter Parker is not a doctor.  It is funny how much it bothers him, and it possible that when Parker returns he might have a doctor degree waiting for him.  Massacre's return to the series is cool.  He's always been an interesting character to explore on.  While the villains of the city are afraid of the newly improved Spider-Man, only one villain can take him down and that's Green Goblin.

Wonder Woman issue 17

This issue has Wonder Woman teams up with her former teacher- War.  While our heroes are closer to finding Zola's daughter, Wonder Woman is further away from discovering herself.  I'm kind of tired with the fact that they're under using Orion.  He is such an interesting character, but DC really needs to make him more important than he is right now.  This issue ends with Wonder Woman comes face to face with the baby's kidnapper and I can't wait to see what they've store next.

Avengers Arena issue 4

The series continues its familiar format of flashbacks of a characters that allows readers to understand who these characters are.  However, just like I stated before, the story is progressing too slow.  We learn who Chase is this issue, and that's it?  The story hardly move forward at all.  And for a story about teenagers killing each others, not a lot of death.  Reptil is severely damaged by an unknown attacker, but he's not dead.  This story really needs to move forward fast, otherwise I'm going to be very disappointed with it.  Thank god this month there are going to be another issue, maybe things will catch up a bit by then.

The biggest mystery in this issue is what the heck happened to Dark Hawk, and why is Chase turning into Dark Hawk?  Also, to much shame, can someone tell me what this cover is parody after?

Batgirl issue 17

This is the first issue that isn't written by Gail Simone, and the story goes down hill instantly.  The aftermath of Death of The Family bring Batgirl face-to-face with her brother, but it's a disappointed one.  I've been looking forward to see the psychotic James Gordon Jr. ever since his first appearance in the New 52, but so far he doesn't do much.  Sure he kills some thugs, but it justified his behaviors at all.  The narration of the story is annoying as well.  It's really hard to read a comic when the narration is from the third person's point of you, and it isn't until the end of the story we learn that the narrator is James Jr.  I really can't wait for Gail Simon to return, and hopefully the story will pick up by then.

Batman issue 17

Well, this is it!  The final issue of Death of The Family event.  I got to say, even though the ending is nothing like I predicted, it is still a terrific ending that has me craving for more.  As for what's inside the silver platter? Man, that really has me pissing my pants when they have the big reveal.  Joker's reasons for cutting off his face is answered as well.  While it might not big a strong reason in my opinion, it's still justified.  The climate of the issue comes when Batman chases The Joker to the edge of the cliff and reveals that he knows The Joker's name all this time as well.  But when Batman is about to tell the name to him, Joker chooses to jump off the cliff before he can hear it.  God damn it!  It just shows that Joker doesn't really care about "ture identity" at all.  As it shows by the end of the issues, when Bruce visits Joker at the asylum.  Even though Joker uses Batman Family's true identity as a threat, but he can hardly give a damn.  This really throws off the classic Batman/Joker dynamic where fans always say that Batman and Joker are one coin two sides, on hiding behind a mask, the other hiding behind nothing.  Now maybe both of them are always hiding behind certain masks, while Batman accepts what's under the mask, Joker couldn't.  So as the result of this event, the entire Bat Family is now "dead".  No one trust Bruce anymore, and Jason Todd won't even bother with them.  So what exactly did Joker say to these kids to cause them this quiet?  Hopefully we can find out in near future.  And The Joker really has the last laugh, he gets what he wants and know the family is dead.

Hope to see the Joker again in the near future.

Batman And Robin issue 17

A cute one-shot issue.  There's not a lot to say about this issue, but it's a very cute and peaceful one.  Ever since the annual issue from few weeks back, I'm really loving this new approach for the series.  Back in the day when Grant Morrison runs the series, it's full of fun little jokes as well, so I'm glad they're returning to its roots.

Damian's character really comes a long way since its first introduction to the DC world.  Now the bond between Batman and Robin is more solid than ever, it becomes harder for fans to see the possible fatality to Damian.  There're many rumors that Gran Morrison is going to end Damian soon.  Well, only time can tell, right?

Batman: Li'l Gotham issue 5

This really is a very cute series.  Joker accidentally spills Poison Ivy's potions all over himself, and causes all the woman in Gotham City to chase him.  We get to see villains and heroes alike just want a piece of Joker, and at the end is Batman who has to rescue The Joker out of this awkward situation.  It's really weird to see The Joker in a light situation instead of a series like how he is in every other situations.  Hey, maybe it's nice that Gotham can be cute like this.  Why can we all be friends?

Injustice: Gods Among Us issue 5

This is a bizarre issue with a story between Green Arrow and Harley Quinn.  The story takes us away from Superman and Joker and to Green Arrow trying to hide Harley Quinn away from harm.  The story shows that Harley Quinn has a humane side, just like many of her counterparts.  The entire conversations between Green Arrow and Harley Quinn is just hilarious.  But the funnies moment in the issue is when Harley points out that Arrow Cave doesn't make sense, and suggests The Quiver.  The ending where Harley Quinn wants Green Arrow to laugh mirrors when The Joker just wants Batman to laugh.  While two individuals have similar wishes, the reasons behind them are completely different.  One is a psycho maniac, while the other just purely want to cheer up.

The final page of the issue states that this is the end.  So no more Injustice before the actual game release date?

Suicide Squad issue 17

The new team is awesome.  I always like team comics and this is shaping up to be a pretty awesome one.  However, this issue really bugs me with all the Asian stereotypes.  Yes, all Asian female assassins dress like little school girls, and every single fucking Asians have two syllables names.  John Chang, Cho Chang, Jeff Chang and fucking Ni Ho!  No, fuck you!  My name is Nicholas and that's already two syllables more without my last name.  Seriously!  What the heck world!  

Yo-yo and Red Orchid's origin have something to do with Brainiac attacking Metropolis in Action Comics is a good touch.  It really allows the reader to feel like the DC comics are connected.

Uncanny X-Men issue 1

The first issue of the brand-new Uncanny X-Men is finally here!  Sadly, the story doesn't deliver the much impact I expected it would like All New X-Men.  The story shows that Magneto is the traitor of the group, and he really wants Cyclops to be taken down.  The story is a straight forward one, but I do not understand the art choices of Magneto- why is he bald?  In fact, I have problems with the art in general.  The story is already not a very solid one, and the art just comes as lazy.  It makes me don't care about the story at all, and I have to take breaks between reading.  If it wasn't for the horrible and lazy art, the issue might still be tolerable.

Anyway, while this issue might not be a solid one, I'm still intrigue on what's happening next.  Hopefully the art picks up in the next issue.

The Walking Dead issue 107

Well, that was anti-climatic.  Last issue we have Negan telling Rick that he did something to Carl, but this issue we find out that it was all a lie.  Not only he didn't do anything with Carl, but he's coming off as a "pretty decent" guy!  I was disappointed to find that nothing has happened to Carl- it's not like I really want him to die, mind you.  But I just don't like it when writers don't have the balls on making bold decisions.  Especially after all the hype on Carl's possible death.  Now it's just a gimmick to sell more copies.  All appointments aside, this is still a decent issue.  I only hope that next month when Ezekiel appears it won't be a disappointment once again.

Comics Reviews 2-06-2013

I review comic books every week!  This week I review comics from DC, Marvel, and Shonen Jump's One Piece , in alphabetical order.
The DC covers nightmare continues!  Why is Arrow still doing there?  Also, due to financial issue and lack of interest, I'm going to stop reading as much comics as I used to.  Sorry.

All New X-Men issue 7

This issue introduces Mystique to the series.  She successfully tricks Cyclops into believing her side of the story, and the result of that is everyone's guess.  Meanwhile, back at the school, Kitty is training the remaining time-travel X-Men.  Once again I really enjoy seeing Kitty as the teacher character and kicks Iceman's ass.  

Not a lot happened in this issue, but the seed for an all-out war is planted.  Next week is the debut of the much anticipated Uncanny X-Men series.  We'll see how things play out.

Detective Comics issue 17

The issues concludes the Merry-Maker story.  Or does it?  It's a classic Batman story trying to figure out who's behind the mask and while the ending is predicable, it is once again the reason that moves the story forward.  The Joker's influence to Gotham City is evident, and in many way isn't Batman similar to The Joker as well?  While The Joker inspires many copycats, Batman also inspires many crime fighters as well.  The ending promises us more of Emperor Penguin next month.  The back-up is a spin chilling one that suggests The Joker's influence may be bigger than expected.

Dial H issue 9

The will be the last time I read this series.  Mainly is because I'm starting to lose interest to the series, and not a lot of promising to the future.  This issue brought us to more complicated world of Dial H and I'm not sure if I understand or even care about it.  When I first pick up this series I though it would be power/enemy of the month type of story.  For all I know, that would be a better story anyway.  Now I'm graduating from the series, I know I will miss it.  And just like the schools I graduated from, I know I will visit the series once a while.  Maybe during the month that somehow has The Flash in it.  Most likely Nelson dialed The Flash's power.

Not going to give a score to a series I'm quitting.  I don't think that's too far.

Earth 2 issue 9

I really like this series.  An alternate Earth with alternate heroes.  A brand-new chance for writers to introduce old, classic Golden Age heroes that were once forgotten to the world.  This issues not only re-introduced many classic characters like Dr. Fate and Judo Master, it also puts Sandman into more action.  The face-off between the Wonders is just an awesome scene, and it also shines more light into what's going on in this world.  it is taking too long for this heroes too come together though, and I can't wait for Justice Society of America to finally formed.  Maybe they should release this series to two times a month like they do with some of the Marvel titles.  Just saying.

Injustice: Gods Among Us issue 4

This issue takes a turn for the worse for Superman.  He takes on Green Lantern, nearly killing him.  He won't listen to anyone and he won't calm down.  Batman questions The Joker why he done this, the only response he gets is he wants to play the game in easy mode now, and Superman is the easier choice for him.  However, I don't believe him.  I think there's a definitely a bigger picture here.  The final shows that Superman killed The Joker- I hope he somehow survived even though I don't see how.

8.5 Superman-gone-psycho/ 10  

One Piece Chapter 698

So it seems that Doflamingo is not going to quit Shichibukai, huh?  "Doflamingo Appears" has Doflamingo appears in an awesome, kick-ass way using his Haki and Devil Fruit ability.  Now that's a Shichibukai actually proving why he's worthy to hold the spot.  Meanwhile, the Straw Hat side of the story is very informative as well.  It reveals where they're going next, and it really puts the alliance between Straw Hat Pirates, and Heart Pirates in action.  This also put more meaning into that awesome cover page on chapter 693.

Now it seems like Law, Kin'emon and Momonosuke are all going to stick around for a long while, this is going to be awesome.  I also really want Kin'emon to join the crew- he looks really awesome along side Zoro and Brook. 

It also reveals that the figure at the final panel of chapter 695 is Kuzan.  It's good to see that guy again.

The Superior Spider-Man issue 3 

While this issue still have that annoying Peter Parker following Doc Ock thingy going on, it is a lot better issue than the previous ones.  It gives Doc Ock a deeper character than before.  It shows how much he cares about his old friend, and he would rather give him all of his money than beat up the old fool.  And the only reason he freaks out is not because of Peter Parker's memory, but his own childhood drama.  This really makes him a more compelling character.  Dare I say I'm starting to like this Spider-Man now?

Hyrule Historia Reviews

The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia is a perfect love letter from Nintendo to Link.  I'm always a fan of Legend of Zelda- actually, a fan would be a lie.  I never once have an opportunity to finish a Zelda game completely and for that I feel ashamed of myself.  However, this wonderful book has once again brings me my love for Legend of Zelda.  With Hyrule Historia, not only old fans can reminisce all the classic and new games, new fans can be easily suck into the magical, and beautiful world of Legend of Zelda.

The moment I pick up the book, I know that this is going to be a big deal.  I ordered this book through Amazon, and when I picked it up at my front door the weight instantly awe me.  The sleek, green hardcover, the color pages with high-end papers, the book scares me to even touch it.  It is almost a steal consider I pre-ordered it on Amazon back in August last year, and I only have to pay 20 bucks.

There are four parts in this book.  The first, "Legend Begins" is a section all about the latest, but chronologically the first game- Skyward Sword.  The second, "The History of Hyrule," is a chronological history of all the Zelda games so far.  Third, "Creative Footprints," is sketches and designs of all the Zelda games.  The last part is a prequel comic to Skyward Sword.

I haven't play Skyward Sword yet- I bought it for my roommate for his birthday last year, but I never play the game myself.  So, I can't say too much for the first section, which is ALL about Skyward Sword.  My favorite section has two be "The History of Hyrule."  My favorite thing about video game franchises has always been the story and history.  And one of the reason I can never fully enjoy The Legend of Zelda series is because the complicated history- but not anymore.  With this Hyrule Historia, Nintendo finally reveals the official timeline and answers that with Ocarina of Time, the timeline splits into three.  While still confusing, but it's understandable.  I'm thinking about going into detail of the timelines in a different entry when I read through the book thoroughly.

The "Creative Footprints" shows different sketches and designs from the artists.  Normally I don't really understand these sketches things, but I can still feel the power as I read through the section.  I especially love the sections when they go into details with the weapons and how they functions.  I, myself, while not a big fan of sketches, am a big fan of mechanical designs.  After "Creative Footprints," there is a small section for game catalog.  This sections shows the games in their release orders and it comes with different box arts for the fans to understand better.  I really enjoy this section as it helps me guess what the creative team were going through back in the days.  I haven't have a chance to read the comic yet.  Maybe I will post my thoughts later when I'm finished.

At the end, if you're a Zelda fan, Hyrule Historia is a must buy for you.  However, if you are like me, who are always interested in Legend of Zelda series, but not really a fan, the book is a must buy as well.  It teaches you everything you need to know about the series, and at the end you're guaranteed to be a fan.  Besides, who can resist that new book smell?

I review comic books every week!  This week I review comics from DC, Marvel, and Shonen Jump's One Piece , in alphabetical order.
Once again, I noticed all the Arrow banner on top of DC issues.  It's getting really annoying...

Aquaman issue 16

This is a fun issue.  It has mysteries, Aquaman trying to help his friends, and it also has shocking revelations.  My favorite moment has to be when the heroes called upon by Cyborg from Justice League issue 16 come to the rescue.  While the heroes might be defeated by Orm, there is a glimpse of a small superhero- can this be Atom?  To me, this really is the highlight of the issue.  I also enjoy reading Cyborg's inner desire while he is down under.  It really strengthen this character especially cause this character doesn't have his own series. However, this is still one of the slowest issue.  Aquaman's rescue mission drags on, and it makes me don't care about it anymore.  The ending is a shocking one, but it doesn't mean is hard to see it coming.  Overall, I give this issue a--

Batman Incorporated issue 7

Just like the Aquaman issue, this issue of Batman Inc. slows down as well.  I guess it is tough catch up with a death of a member from last week, huh?  Anyway, Talia al Ghul's evil plan continues in this issue where the entire Batman family is put in danger.  While Batman himself is lock in a safe and thrown to the bottom of the pool, the other Batman members are under all kinds of attack.  The best part is when a school bus full of kids are attacking Commissionaire Gordon and Nightwing- they can't fight back because they're kids!  Now the entire Batman Family is in danger, and everything is up to Damian to rescue.  Can't wait to read the issue next week to see how things turn out.

Batman and Robin Annual #1

This is far my favorite Batman and Robin issue.  Damian puts Batman on a trip around the world to re-discover his family past, while he himself stays in Gotham to fight crime?  That's just too cute.  Not to mention that he puts on his future Batman costume.  It is really cute to see him in that outfit as a little kid.  Okay, so after reading this issue, I further believe that Alfred is going to die.  This issue also reveals a lot of things about Alfred, and I think that's so we can have one final goodbye to Alfred.  Call me crazy, but that's just how I read this issue.

Batman: The Dark Knight issue 16

Damn, when will this horrible series gets better?  And when will I learn my lesson and stop buying it?  I guess I just have a soft spot for Batman... and Superman huh?  More on that later.

Anyway, the only part I like about this issue is when Mad Hatter is properly introduced.  This version of Mad Hatter is has creepy as ever, and I really enjoy seeing him causing havoc in Gotham city.  So if anything, I guess I will pick up the next issue just because I want to see Mad Hatter running around.

The Flash issue 16

This is also a very weak issue as well. If something cool doesn't happen soon, I am going to stop buying this series as well.  The Flash tags into the Speed Force again, but I don't understand how this is supposed to an answer to defeat Grodd.  The first date between Barry Allen and Iris West was interesting.  I always want this two to be together like how things was before New 52, and it seems like the possibility is there once again.  The thing the bug me the most this issue is when an Asian in the tank pulls a race card, and someone else called on him pulling the race card.  For some reason, it just bug me a lot these days when people pulling the race care,and it especially bug me when someone else called one it.  Jeez people, leave that shit alone already, will you?  

I also heard a rumor that Reverse-Flash is going to the DC world soon.  Hopefully that will happen soon.

Green Lantern Corps Annual #1

The conclusion of Rise of the Third Army is a rush one, but it is also a good one.  The lanterns take down the Guardians, while Baz and B'dg try to find Hal Jordan- can the story be any simpler?  Now the entire run of Rise of the Third Army ended, I really have to say that the Third Army doesn't do a lot in this event, huh?  I mean, they're supposed to the threat right?  How come I didn't see a lot of them in this event?  The threat comes and the treat goes.  Everything was resolved easily as Kyle Rayner, the White Lantern comes to save the day.  The Guardians grow desperate and seek help from the legendary First Lantern.  This is when things go wrong and the event is going to the Wrath of the First Lantern event.  The story goes by really fast, but it does set out to a promising new event.  Meanwhile, all I really care is what happened to Hal Jordan and Sinestro.

Injustice: Gods Among Us issue 3

I'm really enjoying this issue.  When Doomsday shows up out of nowhere, I already expected that it has something to do with Lois Lane.  I just didn't expect that Lois Lane IS Doomsday.  While the story is as predictable as before, it still brings me chills down my spine.  At the end of the issue, Metropolis is blown to pieces, and Lois Lane is killed by Superman himself, I really can't wait to see what Superman is going to do now.  Is this where he's going to go rogue?  I know I would if I was him.

Justice League Dark issue 16

Poor Deadman.  He just came to live, and he is killed right away.  Through Constantine, we are confirmed with what happened to our heroes- they all lost their magical characteristic.  And this also answers why Frankenstein isn't affected by any of the magic of this because he is not a product of magic, but science.  On Zatanna's side we also learn the history of this dimension.  In some ways this is really an informative issue.  Now my biggest problem is what happens to Orchid and Deadman?  Especially Deadman cause it seems like he was completely destroyed.  I hope nothing happens to him.

Lot 13 issue 4

"What the heck is wrong with me keeping reading this series?"  I ask myself.  I really don't understand what going on with this issue, and it's not the good kind of don't understand like Comeback, but the bad kind of don't understand.  I mean, what's wrong?  This series started off so strong and promising, and now it just really bad.  The dad from was killed last issue, and now he is time traveling to get back to his family?  I don't understand what's going on here.  Even though I'm most likely going to re-read the entire series when the final issue is out next month, but I don't think I will ever understand what's going on, and I don't think I will ever care anymore.

One Piece Chapter 697

"Deal" is once again the aftermath chapter that leads to what's going to happen next.  And just like every other aftermath chapters, it reveals more than we expected.  It turns out that Kaido is not human at all as Law calls him the strongest creature.  I wonder what Kaido is then...  Law also states that it is only 30% chance that they are going to win with the alliance.  Well, he is not one of the Yonko for nothing, you know.  The rest of the chapter is kind of boring having the marines saying goodbye and pretending to hate the Straw Hat Pirates.  But seriously, what the heck, Smoker?  Can you be anymore out of character?  I thought its always your goal to capture the Straw Hats, so just do it already!  The highlight is the deal between Law and Doflamingo at the end.  Will Doflamingo step down of being Shichibukai to save his crew members?  We shall find out next week.

Superior Spider-Man issue 2

This is an annoying issue.  Peter Parker following Doc Ock around and keeps on making comments  is just making the panels crowded and distracting.  It is kind of funny watching Doc Ock trying to score with Mary Jane.  While it is disturbing, Doc Ock's failure is just hilarious.  It is good that the ending result of Doc Ock's desperateness has nothing to do with the cover.  I guess Marvel also noticing that it is disturbing if Doc Ock's kisses MJ.  Because that's called rape, my friend.  Well, as I said before, it doesn't seem that Marvel is going to keep this Doc Ock/Spider-Man too long.  It's only a matter of time when Peter Parker returns to his body.

Superman issue 16

Just like Batman: The Dark Knight, why do I even bother with this series?  The answer is because its the flagship Superman title.  This really is one of the worst title that is still on my pull list.  I feel like a lot of people have the same feelings as me, and the only reason they're continuously buying this series is the same as me- it's Superman.  The story is weak, I don't understand what's going on, and I really hate it when Supergirl kisses H'el.  I can't wait for this event to be over so I can read the new story, or hurry up to the time travel story so we can see what happened in issue 0 from this perspective.  In fact, I can't wait for the untitled Superman series that's coming in a few months.  Hopefully that can redeem the entire Superman line.

First thing I want to point out is that I found it very annoying that the DC issues have banner for Arrow on the cover.  I hate that show.  Anyway...

Birds of Prey issue 16

A brand new beginning for a brand new issue of Birds of Prey.  This issue we are introduced with two new team members- Strix, the Talon and Condor.  Personally, I like Strix better than Katana.  The character is more interesting than Katana, and she fits the bird theme of the team better anyway.  Condor is the only male in the team, which they point out in this issue as well, but it doesn't make him any less of a member.  If anything, it makes him a very characteristic member of the team.  I like how this issue skips ahead of few weeks to allow the team members to bond.  I know a lot of readers probably would like to see how the members becoming a team, but seriously though, I don't think this series can slow down anymore.  Anyway, this is a solid issue and it brings back my faith for the series.

The ending is makes me wonder what the heck Black Canary is going to do now.  Can't wait.

DC Universe Presents issue 16

I'm so sad about this series.  I was really looking forward to Black Lighting and Blue Devil, but the stories turns out to be really, really weak.  I'm glad that it is over because this doesn't justified the characters at all.  What we want from this series is a re-introduction of these classic characters to the world of New 52, but the stories are so bad, I don't even know why I care about these characters anymore.  Anyway not that the story is over, it doesn't mean that the characters are over as well.  I'm looking forward to see how they fit into the world of New 52 in the future.

Green Lantern issue 16

I can't believe Rise of The Third Army is ending already.  I didn't even see a single member of the Third Army is this issue.  This really is a very bizarre event that the real threat was hardly seen in the event at all.  Anyway, don't stop this from being a good issue though.  

This is an awesome issue where I fall in love B'dg all over again.  He is such an awesome character in a cute, little package.  We also learn why Simon Baz is such a special Green Lantern.  He has the ability to cure illness!  A power where none of the Green Lantern has.  While might not a lot happens in this issue, we are moving forward things to Green Lantern Corps.

This is one of the few times I would get Green Lantern Corps.  I like this series, and surprisingly due to Guy Gardner.  For an asshole, Guy Gardner has some very interesting stories.  Also, upon reading Green Lantern, I learn that Simon Baz is going to make another appearance in this issue so... yeah...

This is another fun issue where we get to see Baz, Gardner and B'dg kick some asses.  And this time, we finally get to see the Third Army is action!  Guy Gardner really shows how tough he is, especially consider the fact that he doesn't have a ring anymore.  However, I don't like how they end the battle so easy with missiles.  It's also cute to see how similar Baz and Gardner are.

Green Lantern: New Guardians issue 16

Well, after the horrible annual issue, this issue finally picks up a bit.  Kyle Rayner's reunion with Ganthet is a touching one where it leads for us to understand better why Kyle Rayner has difficulties understanding the emotion specter of "love."  DC should just understand that people only like this series for Kyle Rayner and go ahead and change the series to Kyle Rayner: The Awesome Green Lantern.  How Awesome is he?  Well, he finally manages all the emotional specters and becomes a White Lantern.  That's awesome or what?  

Anyway, after this issue, everything is going to end in next week's Green Lanterns Corps annual # 1.  So how's Kyle going to use his power?  Let's find out.

The only reason points are lower is because I don't care about anyone else but Kyle Rayner.

Injustice: Gods Among Us issue 2

Well, that turns out to be a surprise.  I really though The Joker is going to kill Lois Lane that easily.  But no, he has to go and take his time to torture her, or whatever the hell he's doing to her currently.  The appearance of Justice League members is a good one because it really shows how desperate Superman is with Lois Lane missing.  And how cool was it that Doomsday pops out of the nowhere at the end.

And mentioning Justice League, Justice League slows down this issue.  While I still think Throne of Atlantis is a strong cross-over, but it really isn't as good as the previous two issues.  I mean, are we really supposed to believe that Superman and Wonder Woman can be defeated by the Atlanians?  Those two are like gods!  And also Batman, a human trapped in water stream like that?  He's not going to last long.  No, I understand where they are going with this.  They need to put Justice League in dire situations so they can have Cyborg calling for REINFORCEMENTS!!!!!!

That final page is just awesome!  We get to see all the possible helps for Justice League.  Now allows me to break them down one by one:

• Element Woman: I always know this character is going to be back in New 52, but I just don't know how.  I don't even know how's our characters know her.  Anyway, I really like this character and I can't wait to see her in actions.
• Green Arrow: Now isn't that just ridiculous how Cyborg tries to ask Green Arrow for help out, especially after they turned him down originally.  Let's see how Green Arrow will act on this, but I'm pretty sure he's going to turn it down because he's going to be part of Justice League of America.
• Black Lighting:  It's good to see how he's going to make an appearance already.  Hopefully he does a better job here than DC Universe Presents.
• Shazam!: Alright!  I'm so glad to see that he's going to be part of Justice League already.  I just hope that the Shazam! backups explain how the League knows Shazam!  Bu overall, it is really cool to see him.
• Hawkman: So all the classics DC heroes are going to be part of the team, huh?  However, just like Green Arrow, Hawkman is going to be part of Justice League of America this February as well.  So I wonder how that is going to play out.
• Vixen: Another classic character.  I'm glad she finds a place where she belongs after Justice League International was cancelled.  I actually don't know a lot about Vixen, and I wouldn't mind having this as an opportunity to know her better.
• Zatanna: Of course she has to be a reinforcement for the league!  A classic member and a fan favorite.  I can wait to see her having more appearances outside of Justice League Dark.   I really LOVE her.
• Goldrush: Who?
• Black Canary: Yeah, more chances to see Black Canary.  Perhaps this is the chance for DC to bring back the relationship between Green Arrow and Black Canary?  Who knows, but its always good to see Black Canary around.
• Firestorm: People been wondering why Firestorm's series is not cancelled yet.  Maybe that if Firestorm is going to join Justice league, his own series will be cancel.  There, I said it.

So here you go, DC is trying to rebuild the classic Justice League team.  Even though the issue might not be a strong one, but that final page makes things better.
Oh, and the Shazam backup is as strong as always.  Can't wait for that to have its own on-going series.

Nightwing issue 16

This is a creepy, f-up issue.  It is really dark to see everyone Nightwing knows turns into Joker's mind-controlled minions.  Especially the final attack by the little girl Christina.  I mean, that's just brutal. This really breaks him down you can really see how Dick Grayson, the oldest sidekick, got broken into pieces physically and emotionally.  

There're many questions about this issue though, how the heck is The Joker able to haunt down all these Bat members at one time?  It is really confusing of the timeline of Death of the Family event.  But this is not the first time I complain about this, so....

Overall, overlooking the timeline problem, this is actually a pretty strong issue.  I used to say I hate all the Death of the Family cross-over but the Batman title, but towards the end, all the issues finally pick up.  This issue also ends with The Joker holding the waitress plate.  Next month is the ending and I can't wait to see what's inside of it.

One Piece Chapter 696

"Community of Interests" is a celebration chapter.  Every time after incidents on any islands, the Straw Hate Pirates always celebrate with a fest, and this is that chapter.  Nothing a lot happened, but this is still a pretty decent chapter.

The revelation of Momonosuke's human form is... all I have to say is he might as well just stay in his dragon form.  I have no idea why Eiichiro Oda bother hides Momonosuke's appearance in the first place, but it is not anything special at all.  Also, the kid is really annoying with his stupid beliefs on not eating the food.  I know there might be a reason for this, but that whole "honor" thing is really getting old.  Get a life, kid.

So neither Doflamingo nor that mysterious shadowed figure made an appearance this chapter.  However, we did find out which Yonko Law wants Luffy to take down.  It turns out he wants them to take down Kaido, and it reveals that Kaido's epithet is "Kaido of the Hundred Beasts."  Maybe he is also the same Yonko that leads an army of synthetic Devil Fruit users?  Anyway, it also turns out that Luffy want to take down all of the Yonko eventually.  What a shock!

Anyway, I think it is safe to assume that the next island is going to be Wano, where Straw Hat Pirates are going to escort Kinemon and Momonosuke home.

Supergirl issue 16

So far, the eniter H'El on Earth cross-over is just horrible.  However, Supergirl series have been doing pretty well with this event.  I know I haven't read the Superboy series yet, but I'm pretty sure no one can do better than Supergirl when comes to this event.  Supergirl shows a personal reasons for caring about about Krypton.  She's the only one who actually grew up there, and her stories have always been how she doesn't belong anywhere, so if she can bring back Krypton and find a place where she belong, she will do it for whatever reason.  

This issue also guest star The Flash as well.  Flash does a wonderful job exploring the fortress, and introduces to the readers many interesting aspects.  For example, I have no idea that Superman has a zoo in the fortress.  Also, it's great to see Krypto again.  He really is an awesome dog.

I have no idea what that thing is at the final page of the issue.  But I don't think I care at all.

Uncanny Avengers issue 3

Uncanny Avengers is hard to care when you can only read it once in TWO MONTHS!  Jesus, why does this take forever to come out?  I though this is the flagship book of what the entire Marvel NOW is all about, but this is taking way too long for me to care at this point.  

The story itself... is kind of annoying   I mean, who the hell is narrating the entire story?  Knowing that this is someone narrating a past event just makes me care about this story even less than ever.  Red Skull's plan is kind of confusing.  He wants to get rid of all the mutants, but at the same time he's teaming himself up with mutants?  I don't know... 

Red Skull turning everyone to hate mutants is kind of a cool.  Especially the noble Captain America being effected by it, too.  At the end, Red Skill successfully turn Thor to his side, and how Wolverine survived the attack is beyond my imagination.  So yeah, this series need to pick up soon.  And when I said pick up, I mean it needs to be one issue per month.  I don't think I'm asking too much, am I?

Wonder Woman issue 16

Wonder Woman really is a strong series.  Even though the series shows no signs of being part of the New 52 world, it is a very strong series itself no matter what.  

Orion's introduction to the world is really awesome.  I can't wait for this New Gods things to come out the other end at sees how the other New Gods going to fit into the world of New 52.  

A question I have at the bar scene though, what's wrong with ordering a Jack and Coke?  I always order Jack and Coke in a bar- that's my drink.  The bartender is a prick.  Anyway, how all the demi-gods appear in that bar is really cool.  The reunion next month is going to be crazy!

Anyway, who the hell is that emo kid waiting outside the bathroom, and what did he/she said to Zola?
