Comics Reviews 3-27-2013

Sorry guys, I just got my copy of Bioshock Infinite Ultimate Songbird Edition yesterday, and I'm really into it right now.  Juggling with both works and BioShock, I forgot to read the comics this week, and I wasn't prepare for it.  However, it doesn't mean I'm not going to do a comic review this week.  I'm just going to do a short one.

Anyway, here's the cover of the week:

It's funny to see the six of them got stranded on a broken little raft.  I wonder what's going on here?  Anyway, if Franky, Sanji and Robin don't come to rescue them soon, things will be bad for our heroes.  There are 3 people here who couldn't swim at all.

Comics Reviews 3-20-2013

Sorry for the absent yesterday guys.  It has been a hectic week, and it's difficult for me to update regularly.  But now I'm back, and I have this week's comic reviews ready.

Another week of wonderful comic books!  This week I'm reviewing All-New X-Men, One Piece and The Superior Spider-Man.

Trinity of Sins: Pandora

I think the biggest news out of ECCC is DC is planning on releasing Pandora's on-going series: Trinity of Sins: Pandora this June.  Pandora, as we know it, is responsible for the entire New 52 universe when she merge DC, Vertigo and Wildstorm universes into one back in 2011.  It's interesting to see what kind of story Pandora can bring as an on-going series.  That leaves only Question left in the Trinity of Sins without an on-going series.  The other one is Phantom Stranger.

There's still two series left for June, as we know that DC cancelled six titles in May.  Other than this series, DC already announced Larfleeze, Batman/Superman and Scott Snyder/Jim Lee's untitled Superman series.

 

Batman Inc.'s Big Spoiler Ahead!

NY Post announced today that Damian Wayne, the current Robin and Batman's son will die on February 27th, 2013 in  Batman Incorporated #8.  Apparently, Batman will be too late to save Robin.  Again.  Just like how he did with Jason.

So this will come to an end with Morrison's run on Damian Wayne.  Does this mean that Harper Row will be the newest Robin after all?  Only time will find out, and you can make dam sure that I will review the issue this Wednesday.   

DC announces new titles for June

We all know that DC is cancelling six titles in May, and they need six more titles to fill-up that magical number of 52.  Now DC reveals two of the titles that're debuting in June- Larfleeze and Batman/Superman.

It's a sad news that Geoff Johns is leaving Green Lantern.  However, it's even sadder to learn that DC is shuffling the entire Green Lantern Line creative teams.  While it's confusing why DC is doing this, one good thing does come out of it- Larfleeze, the Orange Lantern, is getting his on-going series.

Larfleeze is the only Orange Lantern in the universe, due to the fact that Orange is greed, thus don't share power with others.  Since his debut, Larfleeze has soon became one of the fan favorite characters.  Recently features in Threshold's back-up, now Larfleeze is going to have his own spotlight.  Details of the series is still unknown, but I'm sure it has something to do with the Threshold back-up.

The other new series is a big one- Batman/Superman. 

Like the same name series from 2003, Batman/Superman is going to re-established the friendship between Batman and Superman.  One big problem with the New 52 is a lot of character history has been erased, and their friendship is hardly shown.  The series is set to tell the early tales where Superman and Batman first met and fully explore what happened.  That means Superman is going to be in his T-shirt and jeans outfit.  Hopefully this series doesn't erase what's already shown between the two characters in Justice League and Action Comics, and just work around them.

Once again, these two titles are coming in June.  Can't wait.       

Things I notice from DC May 2013 solicitations

DC just released their May 2013 solicitations in the entirety.  And here are some things I noticed:

• The obvious, DC is cancelling six titles including Hawkman and two new series are starting this month The Green Team and The Movement.
• The Wake is coming in May 1st.  Ever since DC announced the project last year at Comic Con, fans been waiting for this.  It's good to see its release date.
• Earth 2 has a new Batman?  Who can this be?  Someone online says that it might be New 52's Jean-Paul Valley.  Or maybe...
• Batman issue 20 states that there's a team-up we've been asking since the start of New 52.  Maybe this team up is Batman and Jean-Paul Valley?
• What, The Ventriloquist hasn't appear in New 52 yet?  And DC wants to make the villain a female this time?  I'm not so sure about that...
• So Firestorm is officially part of Justice League now?  Also, who is that tiny woman hanging by Batman on Justice League's cover? 
• Orion is fighting Superman!  
• I think, sadly, the biggest news comes out of May solicitations is the fact that POWER GIRL IS GETTING HER OLD LOOK BACK!  I never think the old look was sexiest and I think by changing  it, it makes things worse than ever.  Now I'm glad she gets her old look back, and it makes me wonder what's the story behind it.  Great, this happens when I decided to stop reading it.   

DC goes political- The Green Team and The Movement

DC announces two new titles in May to fill up the absents caused by DC Universe Presents and I, Vampire with The Green Team and The Movement.

The Green Team is a revival title of an old concept that only survived by one issue.  The story is about a group of teen trillionaires sharing their money with those in needs.  If you have a request, they will make your dream come true with their money.

Not much is known about The Movement yet, but the fact that Gail Simone is going to be writing this is making me excited enough.  But I'm sure when time comes we will find out what this title is all about.

Again, these titles will ship out in May to replace the two titles cancelled in April.      

DC cancelled more titles in May

DC comics reveals that six more titles are getting cancelled in May.  These titles are The Savage Hawkman,  The Fury of Firestorm, Sword of Sorcery, Team 7, Deathstroke and The Ravagers.

The news was revealed in CBR's monthly "B&B" column with DC comics editor-in-chief Bob Harras and editorial director Bobbie Chase.  However, they didn't mention any replacement for these titles.  DC really is getting further and further from that magical number of 52.

Harras also mentions that although the series are ending, it doesn't mean the characters won't be seen anymore.  Hawkman is going to be in Justice League of America, and they already have plans for Deathstroke.  Ravagers characters such as Beast Boy, Terra and Caitlin Fairchild are specifically mentioned that they are going to be around.  Maybe having Beast Boy and Terra be part of Teen Titans?  And Amethyst from Sword of Sorcery will "hopefully" appear in Justice League Dark.  I don't know why "hopefully", cause even though I don't like the series, I really like Amethyst as a character.  She just has so much potential.  Chase also states that DC has new titles coming for the "Young Justice" line.  It's about time!  Cause after Ravagers is cancelled, there will only be two titles in this line Teen Titans and Legion of Super-Heroes.  Personally, I hope DC comes with a Red Robin solo title, because there isn't a lot of story about him yet, and I would really like to read more about him.  Also, Shazam! own monthly title.  I want more Shazam than the back-up of Justice League.   

BUZZFEED gives April DC comic WTF Certified!

Remember when I post DC's April solicitations, I stated that there are going to be fold-out covers for every single issues?  Today BUZZFEED calls this month the WTF Certified month and promise they are going to shock the readers in every issues this month.  Also, DC release 7 statements to tease this month:

• Booster Gold reappears while an entire team disappears
• One team is trapped in a bottle while another is changed completely
• Some heroes change their colors and other change allegiances
• Pandora battles to the death
• A close encounter of The Dark Knight kind
• There's a new, old Creeper and some old New Gods.
• One hero quits, and another hero dies

Can you guess which books they are talking about here?

Injustice: Gods Among Us Finally got a release date!

Warner has finally announced the release date for the much anticipated fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us.  It will be release on April 16th in North America, and April 19th in Europe.

Also Announced today is the special edition called Battle Edition, and the prequel comic book.  I will go into more details with the prequel comic with tomorrow's comics reviews.  The Battle edition comes with injustice fight stick featuring art from the game, and three exclusive character skins of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman based on their New 52 appearances.  The retail price for this edition is set for $149.99.

Warner also finally gives out the image of the Collector's Edition.  The details are the same as before: a statue of Batman and Wonder Woman in battle, DLC skins, a steel book, a special edition prequel comic mentioned above and digital download of the movie Justice League: Doom.  This set will retail for $99.99

  

Personally, I think the Collector Edition is a much better choice than the Battle Edition.  Much cheaper too.  I already pre-ordered my already, and can't wait for its release date.  

Things I noticed from DC April 2013 solicitations

There are some things I noticed in this solicitations and I would like to talk about it:

1. Whoever wrote this solicitations really likes to ask us questions we don't know how to answer.  Is this an interrogation or something?
2. Every issues this month have fold-out cover hiding important details of the issues.
3. DC Universe Presents and I, Vampire got cancelled.  Does this mean the untitled Superman series is coming in May?  And does that mean another new series is coming in May to fill up that magical number of 52?
4. There's a new Robin in town, and her name is Harper Row.
5. Flash is EVERYWHERE- including the typical The Flash title and Justice League, The Flash is also set to appear in Justice League Dark, the final issue of DC Universe Presents and, of all unlikely places, Dial H.  
6. Detective Comics issue 19 WOULD be issue 900 if the New 52 never happen.  It seems like DC is going to celebrate it like it's issue 900 anyway with over-sized 80 pages and an cover price of $7.99.
7. And of course, tons of creative team changes.   

I personally can't wait to read all the titles with The Flash in them.  I states before in my comics reviews that I don't think Barry Allen is going to last in the New 52 very long, and maybe this is the evidence.  Well, only time can tell right?  

Funko Domo Pop Vinyls!

Few days ago I mentioned that Funko is releasing Domo + DC comics Pop vinyls. Today it reveals that the figures are going to be numbered 23-27 in the Pop heroes series. They are going to be Batman, The Dark Knight, Green Lantern, The Flash and Superman. Look for these vinyls sometime in Feburary,

Funko is releasing a series of Domo + DC Comics figures!!!!! Each blind box is $5.95, while each figure is 2.5"
The set has 3 versions of Batman (movie, silver age and new 52), 3 Superman (Clark Kent, classic and new 52), 2 Robin (Golden Age and Modern Age), Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, The Riddler, Shazam and Two-Face.
There are also news that 4" POP figures are coming in Feburary as well. Can't wait!
